Pet Accident Cover

Benefits and limits:
  • Up to R5 000 of cover per pet per year (every 12-month period from the pet's joining date).
  • Excess: for each and every claim the pet parent is responsible for the first R300.

An 'accident' is defined as any unforeseen event that results in visible, physical or bodily injuries as a direct consequence of at least one of the following:

  1. Motor vehicle accident
  2. Burn or electrocution
  3. The actions of another animal
  4. Swallowing a foreign object that requires surgical or endoscopic removal
  5. Snake bite
  6. Allergic reaction to an insect bite other than tick or flea bites

Or an accident resulting in:

  1. A fracture
  2. A broken bone
  3. A traumatic ligament or tendon injury
  4. Lacerations, abrasions or wounds

Below are a few examples of exclusions. Please note that this is not a full and complete list. For a full, detailed list of exclusions please refer to the Pet Accident Cover Terms and Conditions.

  1. Voluntary euthanasia, disposal, burial or cremation of a deceased pet.
  2. A malicious act, deliberate injury or gross negligence caused by you or anyone living with you.
  3. Treatment for an accident that occurred before you registered with Absolute Pets Loyalty Care or within the first calendar month after registration.
  4. Treatment of your pet should you not meet the requirements to qualify for cover.
  5. Treatment your pet has received after leaving the loyalty programme.
Waiting period: one calendar month waiting period applies from the start date of your pet's Loyalty Care membership.

Number of pets: you may register as many pets as you like on the Loyalty Care programme at the monthly fee of R30 per pet. Each pet will then have access to triple loyalty points and pet accident cover.

Overview of benefits and limits:
  • Up to R35 000 of cover per pet's policy year (sublimits do apply).
  • Excess: for each and every claim the member is responsible for the first R300 or 10% of the applicable benefit, whichever is the greater. Thereafter, benefits are reimbursed at 90% of the Absolute Pets Pet Insurance Tariff Rate*.
  • Benefit renewal: benefits are renewed on the anniversary of the pet's policy start date.
  • A 10 % discount applies if you insure 2 or more domestic pets (cats and / or dogs)

    5. Teeth scaling and polishing
    6. Sterilisation
  2. Any medical problem, condition, disease, injury, illness, infirmity or weakness that existed, occurred or was present before the start date of your insurance policy and /or during the waiting period.
  3. Recurring conditions or illnesses that started before the start date of your policy or during the waiting period.
  4. Illness or injury as a result of malicious or wilful harm or gross negligence toward the pet.
  5. Treatment of pets that are used for commercial use (for example, police or guide dogs, pets used for racing etc.)
  6. Costs of treatment provided by a non-registered medical practitioner or someone other than a vet.
  7. Elective procedures and cosmetic surgeries such as tail docking, dewclaw removal, ear cropping and more.
  8. Prescription and special diets, pet food, vitamins, mineral supplements and grooming costs.
  9. Treatment, training or other forms of therapy for behavioural problems.

Number of pets: This covers both domestic cats and dogs and you may cover as many pets as you like at the monthly fee of R230 per dog or R190 per cat. If you cover 2 or more pets on either of the Classic or Premium Cover plans a 10% discount applies to the overall monthly cost. This discount does not apply to pets on Loyalty Care.

Waiting period: One calendar month waiting period applies, from the start date of your pet's policy, for accident and illness conditions. Six calendar months waiting period applies, from the start date of your pet's policy, for cruciate ligament claims.

  • Up to R45 000 of cover per pet's policy year (sublimits do apply).
  • Excess: for each and every claim the member is responsible for the first R300 or 10% of the applicable benefit, whichever is the greater. Thereafter, benefits are reimbursed at 100% of the Absolute Pets Pet Insurance Tariff Rate*.
  • No excess applies to Routine Care claims.
  • Benefit renewal: benefits are renewed on the anniversary of the pet's policy start date.
  • A 10 % discount applies if you insure 2 or more domestic pets (cats and / or dogs)
